Barrow AFC has formed a new partnership with Her Game Too, a campaign that aims to raise awareness of the sexist abuse within the realms of football.

The campaign was launched in May 2021 to widespread support on social media – leading to the campaign’s hashtag of #HerGameToo trending on Twitter.

That was in the build-up to the Emirates FA Cup Final and a launch video for the campaign gained over a million views.

Since the campaign’s launch, #HerGameToo has surveyed over 400 female football fans to build a wider picture of the experiences they have faced when attending games.

The campaign is also using this platform to create more opportunities for girls and women to get into sport, and to shine a positive spotlight on female role models in the game.

General Manager, Alisha Henry said: “Sexist abuse or harassment will not be tolerated at Barrow AFC and, by working closely with the #HerGameToo campaign, we hope to create a safe environment at The Dunes Hotel Stadium for all supporters.

“Although big strides have been made in recent years, I think we have to acknowledge that more work needs to be done to ensure more women and girls can safely and confidently enjoy watching and playing football.

“Here at Barrow, we are totally committed to ensuring that we have an inclusive and welcoming environment where everybody can enjoy watching the sport we love.”

#HerGameToo’s co-founder, Eve Ralph, is delighted to see The Bluebirds become the latest professional outfit to pledge support for the campaign as it goes from strength to strength.

She said: “Having the support of professional clubs provides the perfect platform to support female fans and create opportunities for future generations.

“We’re looking forward to seeing the positive impact this has at Barrow and ensuring the football experience becomes inclusive for all.”

Her Game Too can be found on Twitter and Instagram using the @HerGameToo handle, as well as on Facebook as ‘Her Game Too’.
