Trudy Harrison at St Herbert’s School

Copeland MP Trudy Harrison has enjoyed a question-and-answer session with Keswick primary school pupils.

Mrs Harrison was invited to St Herbert’s School, where she told pupils about her role and responsibilities as a MP for Copeland and gave an insight into working and voting in Westminster.

She then answered a variety of questions from pupils and listened to their own ideas for their town.

Mrs Harrison said: “It was fantastic to hear all the questions the pupils had prepared.

“I was really impressed by their passion and their plans for improving the area.  We discussed their desire to have a new swimming pool for the town, an all-weather pitch and some of the pupils’ career aspirations.

“I’d like to thank the pupils for such a warm welcome.”

Headteacher Shelagh Hughes said: “We would like to thank Trudy for taking the time to visit us. The staff and pupils found Trudy’s talk and visit very interesting and it was particularly fascinating to hear Trudy explain the issue over coal mining in Cumbria.

“The children found the insight into the voting system in the Houses of Parliament very interesting.

“It is important for children to hear from professionals in all walks of like to broaden their horizons and inspire their future careers and I know several of the children have talked about possibly being interested in politics since the visit.”
