Emergency services were called after reports of a windsurfer in trouble off the coast of Maryport.
Maryport Inshore Rescue, and Maryport and Whitehaven coastguard teams were called at around 3.20pm this afternoon, Saturday February 12, to Milefort, to the north of the town.
A Maryport Inshore Rescue spokesman said: “Upon arriving on scene, crew members quickly established contact with the wind surfer, who had managed to get to shore and was walking up the beach when the team arrived.
“After a brief discussion, it was determined that the Wind surfer wasn’t in any difficulty and reported that they were in good health.
“Although it would appear that this was a false alarm, with good intent, the first informant did the right thing and reported their concerns to the emergency services.
“When ever you think someone may be distressed or see someone in difficulty, always report it to the emergency services. Never hesitate, as that phone call may just save someone’s life.”
