
The weather again caused disruption to the weekend’s fixtures in the Cumberland County League.
Games at Wigton, Gosforth and Windscale were postponed for pitch conditions.
Thankfully four games did take place, three of which benefited from the use of artificial surfaces.
Carlisle City Development took on Maryport Athletic in the Whitehaven Cup, with the City youngsters triumphing 3-0. James Murdock scored twice and Robert Cowley was also on the score-sheet to ensure the Development side progressed.
In the Premier Division, Workington Reds Development entertained Northbank on the 3G at St Benedict’s School.
The Reds earned the points with a 3-1 win in very poor conditions.
Tom Skinner, Louis Webster and Tom Houghton scored the goals for the Reds, with Brendan Box-Gill notching the reply for Northbank.
There were two ties in the restructured Division One Cup. Each team will play each other once with play-off games to eventually decide the winners.
Whitehaven Miners ran out 7-1 victors over luckless Silloth. Oliver Todd and Jamie Thursby each grabbed two goals, with Alan Cardy, Alan Smith and Matt Williams completing the scoring. Silloth who are experiencing a difficult season, replied through Dale Gebbie
Whitehaven Amateurs Reserves and Cleator Moor Celtic Reserves fought out a close game at the County Ground. In the end Amateurs took the honours with a 2-1 win.
Celtic’s effort came from Ellis Trotter, but a strike from Leo Sanczuk and an own goal handed Amateurs the victory.
