A man accused of trying to rob a male and female dog in a residential area of Carlisle is to stand trial in front of a jury later this year.
Joseph Alfred Malloy, 31, faced one charge when he appeared at the city’s crown court earlier today.
This charge alleges that he tried to rob a male and female of a dog on January 20 this year. It arises out of a mid-afternoon incident in the Raffles Parade area which is said to have involved an Akita animal.
From the dock, Malloy pleaded not guilty to the charge when it was read to him by a court clerk.
He will now face trial at the crown court. This hearing is due to take place in the week of May 3.
In the meantime, Malloy, of Victoria Street, Cleator Moor, was granted bail by Judge Nicholas Barker.
Conditions were imposed which prohibit him from contacting prosecution witnesses in the case, and also mean he must not enter Carlisle other than to attend court hearings, solicitor meetings or medical appointments.
