West Cumbrian football star Dean Henderson has hit out at speculation on social media that he was the Premier League player arrested in 2019.
The 24-year-old Manchester United goalkeeper took to Instagram to reveal how his Whitehaven-based family have been affected by “totally false news.”
Henderson says the “inappropriate” and “hurtful” rumours have affected his family and he wanted to move on by scotching the rumours.
Speculation on social media followed a report in the Sun on Sunday about the arrest of a Premier League player in 2019.
On Instagram today, Henderson said: “I have a family who have been affected by this so wanted to put the rumours to bed and move on.
“Can’t believe I’m having to do this but I’d just like to address the rumours that have come to light in the last couple of days.
“There are some sad people in the world that have attached my name to such inappropriate, hurtful and totally false stories.”
Henderson, who was linked to a move to Newcastle United in the January transfer window is still at Man Utd but has played only five games for them this season. He has been capped once by England.
Dean’s brother Calum, a centre half, played for a while with Workington Reds reserves and is currently with Gosforth in the Cumberland County League.
