A man has been fined £180 for failing to attend an interview as part of an investigation into fly-tipping.
After receiving reports of fly-tipping in the lane of Collingwood Street, an investigation was carried out by the enforcement team at Carlisle City Council.
A notice was served to David Hoodless, of Collingwood Street, requesting him to attend an interview under caution as part of their investigation. He failed to do so and the matter was referred to the courts.
Hoodless appeared at Carlisle Magistrates Court last month and was fined £180, plus ordered to pay costs of £374.16.
Following the case, Carlisle City Council said they wanted to remind people that if they are contacted by the council then they should not ignore any requests for information as action will be taken in the courts.
Councillor Nigel Christian, portfolio holder for environment and transport, said: “The court prosecutions serve as a reminder that we will take action against those that don’t follow the law.
“We all want to keep Carlisle clean and live within a safe environment.”
