Three arrested after Penrith man died in bridge collapse re-bailed by police

Three men who were arrested after a bridge collapse killed a Penrith man have been re-bailed.

Brian Harwood, 73, died after a Polaris Ranger vehicle pulling a trailer fell into a river when a wooden bridge, supported by scaffolding, collapsed.

Mr Harwood, a pheasant beater, and 10 people were injured when a bridge collapsed under the weight of a farm vehicle and trailer returning from a shooting party.

Two men aged in their 60s and 70s were taken to hospital for their injuries.

The tragedy happened on a farm in the Moor Lane area of Roeburndale, Lancashire.

Police were called around 4.25pm on January 18 following a report of a serious incident on a farm.

A 55-year-old man from Preston, a 57-year-old man from Lancaster and a 52-year-old man from Lancaster were arrested on suspicion of gross negligence manslaughter.

They were bailed and must return to a police station on February 15.

Police have now re-bailed the three men until April 19.
