Engineers are working to reopen the railway after a lorry crashed into a bridge.
The crash on Tyne Street in Carlisle dislodged some of the brickwork above the railway lines.
Network Rail engineers are on-site and are working to resolve the issue.
Disruption is expected until 4pm.
Services between Appleby and Carlisle and Hexham and Carlisle are currently unable to run in both directions
