Eden council is making £20,000 available to councils, community groups and individuals to organise events to mark the Queen’s platinum jubilee.

The authority is offering grants of £500 for small community events organised by both constituted and non-constituted groups and of up to £1,000 for larger events organised by constituted groups only, with minimum match funding of 20 per cent, are being made available to anyone wishing to organise events, or activities such as street parties, tree planting, or coffee mornings, particularly over the platinum jubilee Bank Holiday Weekend of June 3 to June 5.

Applications will be considered from the week commencing March 14, though funding will not be paid to successful applicants until after April 1.

Eden District Council’s communities portfolio Hholder, Councillor Lissie Sharp, said: “Already Britain’s longest-reigning monarch, Queen Elizabeth II celebrates a historic 70 years on the throne in 2022 and people across Eden will want to join the nation in marking her Majesty’s remarkable achievement.

“Eden District Council wants to play its part in commemorating the Queen’s astonishing service to our country and is making money available to help individuals and community groups organise events and activities for their local communities.

“The simple application process is open to all and we will make decisions quickly, notifying applicants as soon as possible after the review panel has made a decision.”
