Graham’s Travel, Workington

A former travel agents in Workington could be converted into a takeaway, creating four jobs, if plans get the go-ahead.

Allerdale Borough Council has received a change of use application for the former Graham’s Travel Service Ltdon Jane Street.

Mr Tuga of Whitehaven has submitted the change of use application and will operate the new takeaway as the tenant and owner.

In his proposal, he said: “It is a ground floor open space with a bathroom and a small kitchen.

“To open a takeaway I will use all the space without changing the planning of the premises. I will install a gas pipeline in the kitchen and fan/ventilation, the rest will stay the same.”

The change of use will see no alterations to rights of way or the vehicle access to or from the road. No changes will be made to the building’s exterior and there will be no loss or gain of floor space.

If the application is approved, the takeaway will be open from 4pm to 10pm Monday to Friday and 4pm until midnight on Saturdays. It would also open from 4pm until 10pm on Sundays and bank holidays.

The application is currently under consultation and the estimated earliest decision date is March 28.
