The top two sides in both divisions of the L&L Property Contractors Snooker League will meet each other in the coming weeks’ finals.

All four of them won their respective semi finals in the latest round of matches.

Division One champions Workington Conservative Club faced fourth placed Workington Veterans Club A in the first of the semi finals.

With a 3-1 victory they will now meet second placed Workington’s Station Road B who defeated third placed Workington Golf Club 3-0.

The Division Two semi-finals saw champions Workington’s United Club defeat Maryport Social 3-1 and runners-up Workington’s Veterans Club B defeated Whitehaven’s Rack Shack 3-2.

In the Division One Cons versus Vets A semi-final Dave Holland turned round an early arrears to put the Cons Club 1-0 up.

Frame two saw a solid performance by Richard McCarthy to put some real pressure on the Vets A side but with a fine tactical display it was Vets A captain Kevin Basnett who pulled one back to reduce the deficit to 2-1.

In what turned out to be the final frame of the match Ryan Barker started in assured fashion and with some fine safety, backed up with some superb single ball potting, the Cons cueist ensured his team will make the April 13 final.

The second of the two Division One semi-finals, featuring Station B and Workington Golf Club begun with a win from the season’s highest break prize winner, Kevin Kirkham, to put Station B 1-0 up.

In the second frame Station B ramped-up their assault as Shaun Ayre won easily to make it 2-0.

The momentum was well and truly with the Station B side as frame three resumed and with Peter O’Hagan restricting his opponent to just two points the Station B talisman powered his side through to the final.

In the first of the of Division Two semi-finals between league champions United Club and Maryport Social the underdogs went 1-0 up as Ben Scott delivered a confident win.

Frame two saw some good snooker from both, but with some assured potting it was Dave Chapman who levelled the match score with an impeccable performance.

Mark Suitor was at his diligent best in the next and in giving his opponent little opportunity he put his team 2-1 up.

As frame four started Andrew Mitchelhill looked determined to finish the job and with a captain’s performance he put his team through to give them a chance of a unique league/ play-off double.

The final match of the evening, and the second of the Division Two semis, produced the closest match of the week.

But with Vets B’s Shane Evitts constructing a frame-winning break of 33 in the first Whitehaven’s Rack Shack were fully aware of what was required.

Frame two, nevertheless, proved to be a huge turning point as the Rack Shack looked to be making it 1-1. However as Paul Vickers pinched the frame on the black an important 2-0 Vets B lead was delivered.

At this point in the match the Rack Shack could have been excused for being a little downbeat but with Andy Moore and Adam Morilla refusing to lie down the Whitehaven cueists secured a decider at 2-2.

The expectation had now shifted in the Whitehaven teams’ favour but in spite of this the Vets A captain, Geoff Banton, put in a leader’s showing to drag his team through to next week’s Division Two play-off final.
