
Workington Reds Development entertained the current Cumberland County League Premier Division Leaders Aspatria and shared the points in a 2-2 stalemate.
It was Aspatria who held a 1-0 lead at the interval, courtesy of Shaun Smith and he added a second after the interval.
But the young Reds earned their point with goals from Tom Houghton and Carl Lightfoot.
Workington Athletic, with four fixtures left to play, have a realistic chance of snatching the title. However, if Aspatria, who have only lost one League fixture this season, win their two outstanding fixtures they are guaranteed to be crowned champions.
In the other Premier Division fixtures, there was a seven-goal feast at Gosforth when they entertained Pirelli. In what was described by match official Steve McMahon, as an excellent game of football with both teams providing a spectacle that was a credit to the League, it was Gosforth who came out on top 5-2.
The Gosforth goals were shared between five players – Jack Denwood, Jordan Livingstone, Joe Dorgan, Robert Carr and Rhys Singleton. Pirelli reduced the arrears with strikes from Ben Campbell and Kieran Blair.
Cockermouth travelled to Barton Laws for their rescheduled game against Wigton which had been postponed earlier in the season due to a waterlogged pitch.
It was not possible to divide the teams with the game ending in a 1-1 draw. A Sam Wright effort for Cockermouth being matched by Wigton’s Tom Gosling.
In the Divisional Cup, Whitehaven Miners travelled to Division One champions UniSun for their fixture in the round robin stage of the competition.
It is possible that the two teams may meet again in the knock-out phase however, Miners set down a marker prior to this coming away with a 5-1 victory.
Bradley O’Pray, Alan Cardy, Owen Woods, Connor Woodend and Bradley Glaister helped themselves to a goal apiece. UniSun replied with a lone effort from Dave Barnes.
