Penrith U16s celebrate their win over St Benedict’s in the Cumbria County Cup Final (Ben Challis)

Penrith put on an excellent team performance to beat St Benedict’s 32-5 in the final of the County Under-16s Cup.

It completed an age group double, having already won the Under-18s trophy although they lost-out to Kendal in the Under-17s final.

Penrith controlled the game for long periods in the first-half and had established a 19-0 lead by half-time.

They were well served by an aggressive, go forward pack in which number eight Sam Antoine and prop Danny Lund excelled.

Behind the scrum Penrith had a talented, penetrative trinity in half-backs Isaac Murray and Harvey Johnstone, along with outside centre Sonny Atkins.

Penrith had taken their lead out to 26-0 before Benny’s capitalised on a spate of penalties after their opponents suddenly developed a laxness in discipline.

It culminated in an unconverted try from their liveliest player Miller Dalton, but they were unable to make any further inroads.

Penrith, in fact, took advantage of two late penalties with Murray popping them over to extend the lead.

The four Penrith tries were scored by full-back James Bent (2), Askins and Murray who also landed the kicks – three conversions and the two penalties.
