The final round of the JJ’s Workington Pool League was concluded with four teams looking to secure the B league title and the two promotion places.
Packhorse B were in pole position and entertained Lifeboat B but with the match tied at 2-2 it was still all to play for.
Paul Hopper and Mark Bell put Packhorse B within a frame of the title by taking the last two singles.
Then in the first doubles frame Gaz Messenger and captain Shaun Johnsen controlled things and fittingly it was the skipper that potted the black to earn Packhorse B the title with a 7-2 victory.
Grapes A joined Packhorse B in the A league thanks to their 9-0 victory over Chasers.
This result meant that despite Lifeboat A and Cons Club both winning 5-4 they came up short for promotion and finished their campaigns third and fourth respectively.
Skinny Jimmy’s ended their season 7th and earned their best points tally in the league as they overcame Seaton Royal Oak 6-3.
In the A league, with the title already secure, the race for the top four was still all to play for.
Senhouse Street hosted the Vets where Mike Walker’s reverse break clearance edged Senhouse into the lead.
The Vets pegged the home side back but Colin Robertson took his chance in the final frame decider to give Senhouse a 5-4 victory and secure runners-up spot for the second season running.
Station Road D secured their top four position despite losing to Packhorse A 7-2. Because of the Vets defeat it meant they finished third.
The Grapes’ slim hopes of the top four were extinguished by A league winners JJ’s B who ran out 8-1 winners.
Harrington Legion had a two point cushion over Station Road C in the relegation battle but when the C team beat their own club B team 8-1 the pressure was all on the Legion.
But playing JJ’s A they dominated enough of it to win 6-3 and survived relegation by a single frame better difference.
It meant Station Road C will play in the B league next year.
League secretary John Teasdale said: “After a fantastic season we would like to thank our sponsor JJ’s for their support and all those players who made the season another one to remember.
“Any pubs or players wishing to join or enter a team for next season, which starts in September, can find us on Facebook under JJ’s Workington Pool League.”
