
On the eve of the new Cumbria League season Carlisle have announced a contract extension for professional Michael Slack.
The talented local all-rounder left Wigton to join Carlisle as pro in 2019 and they went on to win the Premier Division title.
He had actually started his career in the youth ranks at Edenside and now 26 he will stay in the role as professional until the end of the 2024 season.
The Carlisle secretary Mark Davidson said: “Michael is an outstanding professional, captain and coach and the club is fortunate in the extreme to have secured his services.”
Throughout his career as a professional at Wigton and Carlisle, Slack has been one of the leading all rounders in the Cumbria League.
Having come through the various county age groups that earned him senior selection and this season he will captain Cumbria, starting next weekend in a T20 against Northumberland.
It’s the first of four dates in the regional group for the National County Cricket Blast and will be played at the South Northumberland club.

That’s followed on Sunday, May 1 with a game against Shropshire at Netherfield; against Cheshire at Toft on Bank Holiday Monday, May 2 and at Carlisle on Sunday, May 8 against Staffordshire.
The following squad has been selected for the opening game against Northumberland next Sunday: Sam Dutton (Furness), Gary Pratt (Richmondshire), Matthew Sempill (Cockermouth), Nathan Waterston (Furness), Paul Hindmarch (Keswick), Michael Slack (Carlisle, capt), Drew Postlethwaite (Haverigg, wk), Richard Gleeson (Blackpool), Nico Watt (Carlisle), Brodie Glendinning (Chester-le-Street), Josh Stirling (Carlisle) and Sam Sharp (Cockermouth).
The side will play two T20’s against Northumberland with the first starting at 11-00am.
