New players brought in to help rescue troubled Workington Town

The cavalry are on their way to help rescue troubled Workington Town!

In Town’s case the relief force is made up of two experienced players who will be with the Derwent Park club until the end of the season.

Bottom of the Betfred Championship without a point, Town have another vital game on Sunday when they visit Dewsbury.

Unfortunately the players won’t be signed in time to play against the Rams but Town expect to have them in the squad the following week, May 1, when they host Batley Bulldogs.

Coach Chris Thorman has been trying for a while to bring in some experience and now there seems to be light at the end of the tunnel.

“I thought we were the better team for the first-half at Whitehaven and there was a lot to be encouraged about despite the end result.

“We need to go to Dewsbury and get something and then hopefully we will get some additions to the squad,” said Thorman.

Dewsbury have only two points themselves and have already been beaten by Town in the Challenge Cup, albeit at Derwent Park.

Almost a third of the way through the season it’s already looking as though Town (0 pts), London (1) and Dewsbury (2) are the teams most in danger of occupying the two relegation places.
