A Penrith school is to join together in music to mark the 30th anniversary of its Gala Concert.

On May 14, Penrith Methodist Church will play host to Hunter Hall School’s 30th Anniversary Gala Concert.

A varied programme will celebrate 30 years of homegrown musical excellence nurtured and supported by Hunter Hall School, with an evening of performances from outstanding current pupils and distinguished alumni.

Masterminded by Hunter Hall’s Director of Music for nearly two decades, Lynsey Wrightson and the school’s longest-serving (29 years and counting!) and much-loved Peripatetic Music Teacher, Barbara Gilbertson, it promises to be a wonderful showcase of upcoming and established talent from the Penrith area.

Highlights include Jessica Harper who, following her Hunter Hall and QEGS career, went on to study voice at Chetham’s School of Music, King’s College London and Royal Conservatoire of Scotland.

She is also the current winner of the Keldwyth Cumbrian Young Musicians Award. Jessica will be joined by fellow music graduates India Birley (Giggleswick, University of Nottingham) and Eden Rose Hunter (QES Kirkby Lonsdale, Andrew Lloyd Webber’s School, Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music and Dance) as they perform piano and vocal pieces respectively.

Secondary school talent on hand will be Jonty Hansford (QEGS), Samuel Wrightson (Caldew), Emily Airey (QEGS), Maud Humphries (Giggleswick), all of whom have enjoyed considerable success following on from the musical grounding provided for them by Penrith’s only independent primary school.

Master Mylo Tsang

Up and coming excellence is being celebrated with a performance from Master Mylo Tsang – a gifted pianist and current Hunter Hall student. Aged just 11, Mylo is already making his mark at a county level and professes a love of everything from Beethoven to Scott Joplin.

And of course, the celebrations would not be complete without performances from the school’s current choir and band. Rumour has it, music teaching staff may even take to the stage…

Hunter Hall’s 30th Anniversary Gala Concert takes place at Penrith Methodist Centre on Saturday, May 14. Drinks and canapes from 6pm, concerts starts at 6.30pm sharp. Tickets cost £5, children are free.
