A moving pep talk from one youngster to another at an Easter rugby camp has captured the nation’s hearts.
A tearful youngster at Sedbergh School says he is struggling at a rugby camp and blurts out ‘Everyone’s older than me, everyone’s bigger than me’ – one of his teammates comes over to give him a pep talk.
The exchange was captured on camera. The youngster is being comforted by a coach, when a smaller boy runs over, puts his hands on his shoulders and says “Listen to me. Trust me. Look at me, Bob. I am the shortest kid here. It doesn’t matter if you’re short. It doesn’t matter if you’re young. It doesn’t matter if you’re tall.
“You are a brilliant rugby player. Do you understand that? You are insane. Right. Give me a hug.”
The coach says: “Best team mate ever.”
The school posted the video on Facebook and said: “We recently captured this amazing moment, which happened last month on our Easter Rugby Camp. The incredible connection and heart-warming friendship between these boys is the perfect demonstration of the ethos of our Sedbergh Courses, and we could not be prouder.”
The video has drawn praise and comments from around the world, including from the England rugby team and the All Blacks, who said it represented the spirit of rugby.
