Lecturers at Furness College are set to take strike action tomorrow over pay.
They will picket the college’s entrance to protest after the college’s management offered staff a one per cent pay increase.
Members of the University and College Union voted in favour of industrial action. They said as inflation is currently nine per cent, the one per cent offer was a real term pay cut.
Strike action is also planned for June 8 and 9.
UCU regional official Iain Owens said: “Staff have already seen their pay eroded after more than a decade of low ball pay offers. Now as inflation sky rockets and staff struggle to pay their bills, management need to come back with an improved offer. Further strikes are on the cards if management refuses to so.”
