London Broncos captain Will Lovell suffered a suspected fractured neck in the game with Workington Town at Derwent Park.
The start of the second-half had been delayed for the arrival of an ambulance to deal with the London player who had been injured midway through the half.
The game was delayed while he received attention on the field after being hurt in a tackle in the 18th minute and he was stretchered off.
Lovell, 29, was then rushed to hospital and the interim coach Mike Eccles confirmed the serious injury in an after-match interview.
The 32-18 defeat suffered by the Broncos paled into insignificance against Lovell’s injury.
Eccles did say, however, that the injury was a potential fracture in the neck but “It’s not great but he seems okay now. He’s got some movement back in his arm. He’s in hospital and we will know more after a full examination and various scans/X-rays.
“Will is a big part of what we do at London and it didn’t help our cause. However we did let ourselves down defensively.”
London still are a point better off than bottom-of-the-table Town and they meet down in the capital during the last month of the season.
Dewsbury, a point better off than London entertain Whitehaven, three points better, on Sunday in another crucial relegation battle.
