If you can’t beat them – get them to join you – or something like that!
Workington Reds manager Danny Grainger has completed his third signing in less than 24 hours with another player from Marine.
Further more, like Lewis Reilly the second arrival Ben Hughes, scored in their 2-1 home win over Reds on Easter Saturday.
Hughes, 22, is an attacking midfielder who started his career in the youth set-up at Manchester City before ,moving to Sheffield Wednesday where he briefly forced his way into Gary Monk’s first team squad.
He spent time on loan in the NPL Premier Division with Gainsborough Trinity but was released at the end of 2020/21 season and then joined Marine.
Hughes said after signing: “I’m absolutely delighted to have got the deal done. Since speaking to the Gaffer and Ruddy it was an easy decision for me.
“The style of play, the fans, the quality in the dressing room, I can’t ask for much more really.
“I have no doubt that it’s gonna be an exciting year for all and with what I saw last year plus a few tweaks, there’s no reason why we shouldn’t be winning the League
“It’s a very professional club with high expectations and I look forward to the journey ahead.”
Manager Grainger added: “Ben is another fantastic signing for us as a club and a team. He is a player who can change a game at the drop of a hat and qwe are looking forward to seeing him in a Reds shirt.
“We are creating a fantastic squad and Ben adds even more quality tio what we already have at the club.
“He is ambitious and wants to push himself as much as he can which is the type of player Ruddy and I enjoy working with.”
