West Cumbrian speedway ace Dan Bewley reached his second successive semi-final in the latest Grand Prix at the Bergring Arena, Teterow in Germany.
Bewley, 22, of Maryport, was actually the second top scorer in the qualifying heats with 12 points from three wins and a second before running third in his final outing.
But it was the man who topped the qualifying heats, Patryk Dudek who scored 13 points, went on to win his semi-final and then swept to victory in the final.
Bewley’s two fellow Brits, Tai Woffinden and Robert Lambert also made the semi-finals but Lambert was the only one to reach the final – his first – and was fourth.
It meant that overall Bewley was credited with a fifth place finish, earning him 12 points and he now stands on 32 for the four meetings so far, in 12th place.
The semi-finalists were handed points as follows: 1, Patryk Dudek 20; 2 Bartosz Zmarzlik 18; 3, Fredrik Lindgren 16; 4, Robert Lambert 14; 5, Dan Bewley 12; 6, Tai Woffinden 11; 7. Leon Madsen 10; 8. Jack Holder 9.
Ahead of the riders’ final outings Bewley had led with 11 points and was the first rider to win from a gate three start position.
The pundits were surprised when Bewley had first pick for gate position in the second semi-final and went for three again, but he missed the start and eventually could only manage third.
The fifth Grand Prix will be held on June 25 in Poland at the Edward Jancarz Stadium, Gorzow.
