17-year-old to appear in court after car driven wrong way down one-way street

A 17-year-old will appear in court after a car was driven the wrong way down a one-way street and collided with a vehicle in Carlisle.

Police are appealing for witnesses to the incident, which happened at around 6.05pm on Monday, May 30.

A black VW Golf drove at speed from Sainsbury’s car park, Church Street, Carlisle the wrong way down John Street, where it then collided with a car at the junction of Shaddongate and Junction Street.

A 17-year-old boy, from Carlisle, was charged in connection with:

  • Driving a motor vehicle dangerously
  • Failing to stop
  • Driving a motor vehicle otherwise than in accordance with a license
  • Driver of a vehicle failing to stop after a road accident
  • Driver of a vehicle involved in a road accident failing to report that accident
  • Using a motor vehicle on a road without third party insurance

He is to appear at North and West Cumbria Youth Court on June 24.
