Cumbria Cricket League is to investigate an on the field incident during Saturday’s Premier Division game between Cockermouth and Keswick.
Two players clashed during the Cockermouth innings and the matter has been reported by the umpires.
League secretary Peter Gardiner said: “The umpires have submitted an incident match report and following that the league will commence a disciplinary enquiry into the incident.”
It is the first time the disciplinary committee will have been asked to consider a reported incident this season.
In 2021 there was concern early in the season over the apparent growing number of cases involving verbal abuse to umpires.
Fortunately that was not repeated for the rest of the season and there have been no reports of similar behaviour in 2022.
Six years ago, after a country-wide survey, more than 50 per cent of umpires said that they had suffered verbal abuse.
