Barrow’s new manager Pete Wild has continued his recruitment by signing a fourth new player for the Bluebirds.
Midfielder Sam Foley played 45 times for Tranmere Rovers last season and is a vastly experienced player with over 450 senior appearances to his name.
A former Republic of Ireland youth international 35-year-old Foley came through the youth ranks at Cheltenham Town, and had short spells at Kidderminster Harriers and Redditch United as a rookie.
After impressing on loan at Newport County, the Welsh side were quick to snap up his services on a permanent basis.
He was ever present for Newport, and his 12 goals in 49 appearances in 2011/12 drew the attention of League One Yeovil Town, who took him to the South West.
His first season at Huish Park was a successful one, as his midfield prowess helped lead the Somerset side to promotion to the Championship.
Foley subsequently enjoyed spells at Port Vale, Northampton, St Mirren and Motherwell before signing for Micky Mellon’s Tranmere Rovers last summer.
He gathered high praise from the Tranmere boss and was a fans favourite throughout the past campaign.
Wild said: “Sam is a top professional and will bring excellent added experience to the group. He is a player that knows this league inside out and will certainly help the squad to develop and achieve its ultimate goal.”
Foley has penned a one-year deal with an option, and will join the club on the expiration of his Tranmere Rovers contract on July 1.
Tyrell Warren joined the squad 24 hours earlier and Wild insists he won’t be stopping at just four new faces.
He said: “We’re hopeful of some more signings across the next seven days. Myself and Iain Wood have been hard at work since I arrived at Barrow, and it’s good to see some of our hard work pay off with the new lads coming in to join the group.
“I’ve spent the past few days in Barrow. I’ve really enjoyed meeting staff and people connected with the football club, along with spending some time in the town itself. It’s been very enjoyable chatting with the ground-staff and seeing that the pitch is coming along nicely.”
