The latest HTA meeting at Wardhall attracted 68 runners for the three trails.

Considering the weather throughout the day produced showers, fortune favoured the supporters – and the hounds – as it remained dry throughout.

Saturday’s senior International winner at Cleamire, Kirkhead Rebel turned-out again but might have been feeling his week-end exertions as he could only finish third in a field of 34.

He had appeared on the finish in a group of three but it was Howgill Lil who just managed to pull clear and beat Barncroft Spirit.

There was a tight finish in the pups with Silver Streak and Huntsman’s Rebel running side by side on the finish. In the end Silver Streak just managed to pull out a little more and win by a length.

The open non-winners brought the meeting to a close and Mike Watson’s Persian Gold finished well to beat James Irving’s Overwater Eddie.

It’s a nice change of fortunes for Persian Gold who has been troubled with an injury to a hind leg but appears to be over that now.

Huntsman’s Rebel remains top of the puppy championship table with 12 wins and leads from Ned’s Gain (8) as Silver Streak moved on to 6.

Duchess Ava wasn’t in action at Wardhall but remains top of the senior table with seven wins while four hounds have three.

The next meeting is back at Wardhall on Thursday while the Bitch Produce is being staged on Saturday at Dubbs Lane, Windermere.
