Where is the cheapest place to shop in Cumbria this week?

Are you looking for the best deal on the supermarket shelves? Wondering where to get your essentials? Cumbria Crack has come to the rescue.

We have put together a list of staples that people pick up at the supermarket so you can work out where to go for your food this week.

By popular demand, we’ve added Aldi to our list – surprisingly more expensive for some items than the traditional big four chains.

Heinz beans in Asda clocked in at £2.49 in comparison to £3.49 in Aldi, but milk and butter prices remain undefeated in the German store.

But while Asda was offering the cheapest price for a 750g tub of Lurpak at £5 last week, it has now crept up by 25p, with Morrisons, Sainsbury’s and Tesco all still sat staunchly at the £7.25 mark.

Coffee in Morrisons has also seen a sudden rise in cost, moving from £3.50 to £4.65 for a 190g jar. The price of coffee beans has jumped by 80 per cent, pushing the price up.

In a positive twist Sainsbury’s prices have remained the same and some prices at Tesco have decreased, including teabags dropping from £3.59 to £2.49.

The eight most common items included two litres of milk, a loaf of bread, coffee, teabags, butter, beans, chicken and potatoes and basket totals across all the shops we visited hit double figures.

Items we included covered both the supermarket’s own items and named brands from the four big stores that we found were the most accessible across Cumbria.

Prices do vary – sometimes daily – and we did not include any special offers. These prices are a guide only.

If you’d like to do a price comparison in your local supermarket to add to ours, we’d love to hear from you! Please email [email protected]
