Workington Town have released Welsh international forward Connor Davies – and he’s joining relegation rivals Dewsbury Rams.
Town are expected to be making a second statement soon after the mid-week revelation that they were taking immediate steps to ensure the long-time survival of the club.
It is being suggested that Town’s cash flow problem has prompted wage cuts at Derwent Park.
They are not back at home until August 21 when Dewsbury are the visitors as after last week’s trip to Halifax they have four away games, including the Summer Bash clash with Whitehaven on July 31 at Headingley.
Connor Davies, and twin Curtis, were signed by Town at the end of April but Curtis, who was barely used, went on loan to Whitehaven last week.
The pair, originally with Halifax Panthers, played in France at a good level before joining Town but have now gone their separate ways.
Town travel to Sheffield this weekend and then it is Whitehaven in the Summer Bash. They then visit Bradford on August 7 before making the trek south to play London Broncos on August 14.
The return to Derwent Park on August 21 is followed by a trip to Featherstone on Saturday, August 27.
The season ends in September with a home game against Whitehaven which has the potential for a decent crowd on September 4 and it concludes a week later at York City Knights.
A number of money-raising initiatives have been launched in a bid to plug the financial gaps.
