
Ellenborough produced their best performance of the season to end Distington’s unbeaten record.
Beaten in both the BARLA Cumbria Cup and the Cumberland ARL Premier Division, Elbra gained their revenge in the semi-final of the Cumberland Cup.
Building on an 18-4 half-time lead they went on to double their points tally and ran-out 36-14 winners. Clayton Sutton was their man of the match.
Keenan Winter (2), Ben Robinson, Zac Olstrum, man of the match Johnny Goulding and Danny Penman scored the Ellenborough tries with Owen Hoyles landing six goals.
Distington replied with tries by Phil Lister and Aiden Worthington with Scott George landing three goals.
In the final they will play Wath Brow A who were successful, 28-18 against Kells A in the other semi-final.
It had been a game of fluctuating fortunes until the 67th minute when, with the sides tied at 18-18 Morgan Ackerley made the break which led to Mark Watson scoring the decisive try. Jenson Olstrum converted and four minutes later a Luke Spivey scored the final try to cement the win.
Karl Garner had given Kells the lead after only four minutes with an unconverted try but Wath Brow led on 16 minutes with a try by Olstrum which he also converted.
It was nip and tuck as Kells came back to regain the lead after 23 minutes with a try from James Jennings. But there was no keeping Olstrum out of the game and when he scored his second try the Hornets were back in front 10-8.
Then two minutes before the interval Sam Murtagh went in for the try which gave Kells their 12-10 interval lead.
Within seven minutes of the re-start Wath Brow had regained the lead with unconverted tries from Joe Power and Owen McCartney. Once again Kells fought back and drew level just short of the hour with a try from Ryan Starkie, converted by Martin O’Neil.
But the last quarter belonged to Wath Brow as they went clear to clinch their place in the final. McCartney was awarded their man of the match award, with Bailey Morton earning the Kells nomination.
In the CARL Premier Division Cockermouth were too strong for Maryport and won 42-12 after being 18-6 ahead at half-time.
Jack Lewis led the way for the Titans with a hat-trick of tries while man of the match Brad Taylor grabbed a couple. Also touching down were Jamie Lightfoot, Luke Armstrong and Alex Barton.
Matthew Irving converted two and Ryan Scott improved one.
For Maryport there were two tries for Josh Patterson. He converted one and Iestyn Hughes improved the other. Rob Ferguson was their man of the match.
Two games were played in the CARL First Division which produced victories for Hensingham A and Seaton A.
Hensingham beat Ellenborough A 26-12 after they had led 20-0 at the break.
The five Hensingham tries were scored by Tom Pattinson, Logan Scales, Luke Richardson, Matthew Williams and Stephen Hodgson. Noel Branthwaite kicked three goals.
Ellenborough replied with tries from Arron L:awson and Rhys Burr. Lawson converted both.
Logan Holgate was named Hensingham man of the match with Abby Towers taking the award for Elbra.
Seaton A eventually proved too strong for Egremont A as they turned an 18-12 interval lead into a final score of 50-18.
The Seaton tries were scored by man of the match Arron Postlethwaite (2), Ben Postlethwaite (2), Brendon Walker, Brett Phillips, James Robinson, Keith Hunter, Mark Walker and Jack Todhunter. Walker put over five conversions.
Egremont’s tries were scored by Nathan Preston, Lee Cruden and George Fisher. Dylan Biggins was their man of the match.
