An engineering boss has been appointed to the board at a West Cumbrian rugby club.

Nick Robinson of Lillyhall headquartered LEL has joined Whitehaven RLFC as a non-executive director to push forward the club’s new business strategy.

Nick said: “As a company, we’ve been right behind Whitehaven RLFC for a few years now, and I’m delighted to be able to offer my assistance with the new and exciting plans that are coming ahead.

“I’ve followed and been a supporter of the club for many years as a fan and to now play an active part and assist in its future success, is just brilliant.”

The firm, which employs 22 people, works in the electrical, nuclear, industrial, and mechanical engineering sectors and has worked on several high-profile projects at Sellafield and BAE Systems.

Whitehaven chief executive, Ashley Kilpatrick said: “It’s a great pleasure to welcome Nick as a non-executive director. Nick is a big supporter of the club and has been a massive help in recent times. Nick working closer with us, is exactly what we need.

“He is a great bloke and from talking recently I can see how keen he is, he has some excellent ideas on how we can improve and has a skillset which will be invaluable in the bid to help the club grow and shape a successful future.”

Last year, Nick’s company sponsored the renaming of Whitehaven RLFC’s stadium.

Nick added: “We are a local firm that has completed numerous projects within the local nuclear industry and through our rapid growth we recognise the sheer importance of investing and supporting our local community club.

“Our business is one of huge ambition and our commitment to the community and providing local employment is continuing to blossom. I’m really looking forward to all the opportunities ahead.”
