Keith Richardson greets Andrea at Rockcliffe on her way to Scotland

A record breaking extreme challenge woman received a warm welcome in Carlisle during her remarkable feat of endurance.

Andrea Mason was on her way to the Scottish leg of her mammoth test when she stopped-off to meet old friends.

Keith Richardson and his family have been friends with Andrea and her family for many years and he wanted to congratulate on her efforts en-route to Scotland as she cycled through the city.

“I was able to join-up with Andrea and her team in the lay-by at Rockcliffe opposite the sawmill. She was on her way to Loch Aea and Ben Nevis so was able to pass on our congratulations and best wishes for the final leg.

“She completed that and it’s been a fantastic effort,” said Keith.

Andrea, 40, had started taking on extreme tests of endurance while recovering from cancer and this latest triathlon challenge involved Britain’s longest lakes and highest peaks.

She swam the length of Lake Bala, Windermere and Loch Awe before cycling to Snowdon, Scafell Pike and Ben Nevis and running up them.

In completing the challenge inside five days it is believed she set four world records in the process.

She had lived with severe endometriosis since first starting her period; had also been diagnosed with cervical cancer and has had a full hysterectomy.  She completed her first challenge in 2017

In 2019, she swam across the English channel, cycled to Chamonix in France, and climbed to the top of Mont Blanc.

On this latest challenge, the one says has been the hardest, she set off at Lake Bala in Snowdonia and finished on Ben Nevis in the Grampian Mountains four days, seven hours and 58 minutes later.

In-between, she swam 40 miles (65km), cycled 497 miles (800km) and ran 27 miles (44km) up three mountains whilst gaining 2.1 miles (3.4km) of height.
