Carlisle stayed unbeaten after a 1-1 draw at Colchester after they had conceded the opening goal.
The home side were close on six minutes when a Freddie Sears effort came back off the inside of the post.
Their goal did come, though, on 19 minutes when a defensive mistake let in Luke Hannant and he fed Noah Chilvers who scored with a fine shot into the corner of the net.
Carlisle, however, had been the better side for the most part. A diving header from Jack Armer flew just wide and Kristian Dennis brought a fine stop from keeper Sam Hornby.
It was Dennis who headed Carlisle level a minute before the break when he headed home a pinpoint cross from Owen Moxon.
Colchester dominated the second-half and Carlisle keeper Tomas Holy made a fine save to deny Chilvers, although generally he was given solid cover by a determined defence.
Carlisle have only won both opening League games twice in 47 years, but remain unbeaten this time round.
Manager Paul Simpson said: “I’m satisfied with a point after the way we had to stand-up and defend well in the second-half, if not so happy with the chances we missed beforehand.
“Against a solid, experienced side I thought we did really well in the first half and we certainly deserved to go in on level terms at least.
“What did disappoint me was the goal that we gave away. One of the players made a mistake, but in my view the real mistake came two passes before that.
“Overall, though, the stats back up what I’m seeing with my eyes and I know those lads put in a very good shift.”
He had suffered some bad news before the game, however, with confirmation that winger Brennan Dickenson will need surgery following a training ground injury picked up ahead of the opening game with Crawley.
Simpson revealed: “He saw the surgeon and he does need a reconstruction of his ACL.
“We’re waiting to see, because there’s a tear in his meniscus as well, and there’ll be a decision to come on whether or not that needs to be repaired.
“If it does, he’s out for nine months, but if it doesn’t it means eight months, obviously a little bit shorter, so either way he’s got a lot of work ahead of him before he’s back with us.”
