Whitehaven have confirmed that former Workington Town hooker Curtis Davies will be staying with them until the end of the season.

Davies, 25, initially signed a four-week loan deal from Championship neighbours Town.

Head coach Jonty Gorley is pleased to retain his services and said: “It’s good to have Curtis for the remainder of the season instead of being on loan because he’s been good for us.

“He’s another hooker who can do 80 minutes, which is good because he’s the only recognised hooker in the squad.

“I don’t think Curtis has missed a tackle yet in the games he has played for us and his service from dummy half is excellent.

“Curtis is extremely fit, probably the fittest in the squad. On top of this he is a very likeable lad and very easy to get along with as a coach, because he does all the right things.”

It was a view underlined by Interim CEO Ashley Kilpatrick who said: “I’m delighted that we have been able to keep him permanently until the end of the season.

“Ever since Curtis came in from Workington I think he’s been good for us. He defends well, his distribution from dummy half is good and he can play big minutes if we need him to.

“Curtis will be looking for a big end to the season so he can push to get into that Welsh World Cup squad.

“I’d like to thank the Vice Presidents for helping get Curtis here permanently. They’ve been brilliant all season making my life a little easier recruiting players.

“Anyone wanting to join should contact the club’s team manager Des Byrne.”
