Workington Town went down 38-12 at Sheffield, but ten minutes from the end they were still in the contest.
Callum Phillips had scooted over from dummy-half on 65 minutes and Jake Carter’s conversion pulled them back to 22-12.
However in the closing stages the Eagles scored three tries, two of them converted to run out winners, albeit by a flattering margin.
Town had dominated the opening exchanges and were able to take the lead on nine minutes with a try by Jamie Doran which Carter converted.
The Eagles drew level on 15 minutes when George Griffin rounded-off a strong period of pressure and Kai Morgan added the conversion.
They took the lead on 27 minutes after Town’s Braden Leigh knocked on trying to made an interception. The resulting scrum saw Sheffield make the line under the posts through Foster and again Morgan converted.
Town’s travelling fans thought their side had scored soon after through Mason Lewthwaite but instead the referee awarded a scrum for a knock on.
There was more hard luck for the Cumbrians when they pushed for a score but Jack Stephenson knocked-on when he was looking for an off-load.
It stayed 12-6 up to half-time and Town conceded first after the restart when some slack defence from the visitors allowed Morgan to score and add the conversion.
Town survived a spell of strong pressure from Sheffield and Zarrin Galea ran almost the length of the field but couldn’t quite get over due to superb defence from Billy Walkley.
When Phillips scored their second try with 15 minutes left there was still a chance Town could snatch it but the ten-point deficit was widened in the last seven minutes.
Unfortunately they also lost Phillips late on, limping off with what looked like a repeat of the hamstring injury which kept him out of recent games.
Keiran Gill (74), Morgan (78) and Griffin (80) scored the tries that carried the Eagles to their victory by a margin of 26 points – which was somewhat harsh on the battling Cumbrians.
