
Wath Brow Hornets continued their fine end-of-season run with a 32-12 win at Leigh Miners Rangers.
They had been locked at 12-12 half an hour into the contest but after grabbing the lead at the break went on to win well.
Hornets struck first with a try from Conor Molyneux on nine minutes but after 28 minutes Rangers had taken a 12-6 lead.
Peter Caddy, who was to emerge as man of the match, went in for Wath Brow’s second try and just before half time the visitors scored a third try to establish a 16-12 lead at the break.
Sam Curwen, who had earlier kicked two goals, went in for the try but was unable to convert.
Caddy went in for his second try after 56 minutes, converted by Curwen, and two late touchdowns from Jay Wetherill and Curwen sealed the Wath Brow win. Curwen improved one of them.
Egremont Rangers, bound for Division One next season, faced a tough trip to Hunslet Club Parkside and were beaten 42-0.
They trailed 24-0 at the break and eventually conceded seven tries but prop Brad Long came out of the game with a lot of plaudits.
Kells will exchange places with Egremont next season after they clinched promotion following a 38-12 home win over Featherstone Lions.
Their final game next Saturday is at Waterhead Warriors and if they win will go back top of the League, but needing to wait a week to see how Hull Dockers fare in their final game at Wigan St. Patrick’s seven days later.
It was only 10-6 at half-time but Kells turned on the taps in the second-half to pull clear.
They had opened-up a 10-0 lead with tries by Kieran Fleming and Sam Murtagh before the Lions scored a converted try just before the break.
Kells dominated the second-half and scored tries through Jordan Burns (2), Murtagh, Jack Ainley and Mason Lewthwaite. Ross Gainford kicked five goals.
Title rivals Hull Dockers were 24-0 ahead against Oulton Raiders at half-time but were hanging on at the end for a 24-22 win.
Barrow Island are bound for the Division Two play-offs and their 20-10 home win over Beverley relegated their visitors.
Max Anderson-Moore and Adam Jackson scored tries, one converted by Jackson for a 10-6 half-time lead.
In the second-half Sam Jones and Dan Wright scored further tries for the Islanders, one of them converted by Jackson.
Seaton Rangers had a superb result in Division Three when they beat leaders East Leeds who will be playing Division Two rugby next season.
It was only the third defeat of the season for East Leeds who will be champions if they draw or win their final game at home to Millom.
Seaton had crashed 56-6 in Leeds so this was a satisfying response and it looked like being an emphatic revenge win.
With 52 minutes gone Seaton were 26-0 to the good and seemingly in complete control.
That advantage had been established with tries from Craig Foster, Gary Taylor, Joe Curwen, Brad Walker and Cieran Walker, three converted by Dom Smallwood.
Easts scored their first try at that point but JJ Key crossed for an unconverted Seaton try and although the visitors touched down twice more Seaton could be very satisfied with the 32-18 win.
There was also some celebrations for Hensingham as they scored their fifth win of the season and completed a double over Eastmoor Dragons.
It was a clash between the Division’s bottom two and was settled eight minutes from time when player-coach Jessie Joe Parker crossed for a Hensingham try. Parker converted to complete a 26-22 victory.
Earlier Danny McGarry, John Carrick, Callum Morgan and Parker had scored tries. Parker had previously kicked two goals.
Millom faced a trip to Waterhead Warriors, whose late surge has kept them on the tails of East Leeds.
The Warriors were far too strong and won the game 84-16 with Kian McPherson, Jackson Evans and Jude Lupton scoring the Millom tries. Evans and Jack Newbegin kicked a goal each.
