Workington and District Sunday League is to switch to just one Division in the season which starts next month.
The Sunday League Committee met last night and made the decision because only 12 teams are ready to play in the months ahead.
At the AGM it was decided to go with a seven/six split in two Divisions but since then Highfield have pulled-out of the League.
In switching to one Division it means clubs will play 22 league games, contest two knock-out competitions the League Cup and the President’s Cup and also the County Cup.
If time allows the League will operate a Divisional Cup competition for the bottom eight teams in the League.
Secretary Ron Caffrey said: “As we have fixtures already in the system for September we will go with them, and ask the Cumberland FA to alter them to show the Premier League.
“The league will close from December 11 until January 8 2023 for Christmas and the New Year and the season will finish on May 31 2023.
“There will be some midweek games from the March 31 2023, the new league secretary will have to apply to the Cumberland FA for permission for this.
“The Cup finals have been booked for Borough Park the last week in April or first week in May.
“If any club is objecting to the decision to switch to one Division they must put it in writhing before 5pm Monday August 29, and then a Special Annual General meeting will be called on Thursday September 8 and the league will be suspended until after the special AGM.”
Preliminary talks have already started over the amalgamation of the Workington and Egremont Sunday Leagues which have 20 clubs between them.
