There were just four games across the two divisions in the Cumberland County League in the latest round of fixtures.
Carlisle City were the big winners in Division One as they ran out 11-0 winners against Whitehaven Miners reserves. Bobby Dixon scored four and Jonny Haughan grabbed a hat trick, with two for Nathan Johnstone and a goal apiece for Ellis Watson and Tom Hickey.
City were joined at the top of the table by Bransty who made it two wins from two with victory over Whitehaven Amateurs thanks to goals from Daniel McCann, Stewart O’Pray and Jamie Thursby.
Windscale Reserves get their season underway on Wednesday night when they entertain Cleator Moor Reserves who will be looking to join Carlisle City and Bransty on maximum points.
In the Premier Division title favourites Aspatria travelled to UniSun Athletic and there was late drama in the 2-2 draw.
Dave Nelson put UniSun ahead before Richard Hudson scored either side of half time to put Aspatria into the lead. Aspatria spurned a host of chances in the final 20 minutes with UniSun defending valiantly and goalkeeper Tom Taylor making numerous outstanding saves.
With just 10 seconds of injury time remaining UniSun lofted a free kick into the Aspatria box and Luke Howe guided his volley inside the far post to level the scores.
Wigton joined UniSun at the summit as they drew 2-2 with Cockermouth at Barton Laws. Mike Graham and Conor Cooke scored for Cockermouth with Ryan Hanley and an own goal making up the Wigton reply.
There is a more comprehensive fixture list this week-end with four games in the Premier Division.
Cockermouth host Workington Reserves on Saturday with early pacesetters UniSun travelling to Gosforth. There’s derby action as Wigton face Aspatria and Whitehaven Miners look to continue their impressive start away to Maryport.
In Division One the top two both play at home. Carlisle City entertain Windscale Reserves, Bransty play Whitehaven Miners Reserves and Cleator Moor play Silloth who will look to bounce back from a heavy opening day defeat.
