
Kells A were convincing winners of the Holmen Iggesund Cumberland ARL Division One top four final.
They overwhelmed the challenge of Ellenborough A at Egremont 54-4 as they scored 30 unanswered points in the second half.
But Ellenborough’s first team more than made-up the following day when they beat old rivals Distington 22-6 in the semi-final of the CARL Amateur Cup.
The Friday night game first, though where Kells were well on their way with a 24-4 half-time lead.
Clarke Chambers opened the scoring after six minutes with a try and was followed over with two in quick succession by Owen Martin.
Harry Watson, who was to go on and claim the man of the match award, nipped over after 23 minutes and it was Chambers’ second try – the fifth of the half – which took Kells into their comfortable lead. Dan Starkie had converted two.

Ellenborough’s response had been an unconverted try by Jordan Ostle.
In the second half Chambers scored two more, Watson completed his hat-trick with two more and there were other scores by Ashton Sice and Sam Murtagh. Starkie added another three conversions.
But the big game was Saturday’s clash at Distington where Premier Division runners-up gained their revenge for missing out on the title by a count-back on the two side’s results.
They were 10-6 ahead after a very competitive first-half but added two more converted tries and didn’t concede another point in the second-half.

Jack Speight scored Distington’s only try, which was converted by Kieran Worthington but Elbra were deserving winners as Ben Robinson (2), Jordan Ostle and Keenan Winter scored tries, three of them converted by Owen Hoyles.
But Ellenborough will have to wait until Tuesday to find-out who they will meet in the final.
Wath Brow A will host Kells A in the second semi-final which kicks off at 7pm.
