Kendal Town just miss out on getting back to winning ways

Kendal Town would be disappointed not to get back to winning ways at Parkside Road when they were held 3-3 by Charnock Richard        .

They had to do it the hard way as the visitors had a man sent off as early as the 10th minute and for ten minutes near the end were down to nine with a second player in the sin-bin.

It had been a dramatic start and the red card was shown after a penalty save by Ryan Hogarth.

Rob Wilson had committed a clear foul in the box but long-serving Carl Grimshaw saw his spot kick saved by Hogarth. He immediately moved in for the parry and in doing so came into contact with the keeper.

The referee produced a straight red for a dangerous challenge and Kendal had the chance to build on a bright start.

But it was the visitors who had the first real chances as both Simon Grand and Joel Holt missed great opportunities to score from close range.

Gradually Kendal started to assert themselves on the opposition and Finley Lynch was inches away from reaching a speared cross from Chris Wraigthe.

But out of the blue Charnock Richard took the lead on 38 minutes when a free kick on the edge of the area was drilled past Hogarth by Nathan Nickeas.

It took Kendal four minutes to equalise when Wraigthe put a cross into the box and Tom Kiliffin headed home.

After Lynch had gone close to grabbing a second Kendal did score again right on half-time.

The ball was slipped to new signing Ryan Winder who steered a shot into the net from ten yards.

Five minutes after the re-start the visitors drew level. Holt did well to get to the by-line and pull the ball back for Lewis Haydock to fire home.

Two minutes later Shaun Sailor was presented with a chance in the opposition box but saw his angled drive zip past the upright.

There was a disaster for Kendal after 63 minutes when Hogarth got in a tangle dealing with a through ball which he missed completely. In trying to atone he brought down Grand and from the penalty spot Holt put the visitors in front.

Winder hit the bar from long range and then Lynch had a header well saved by Callum Jakovlevs.

On 76 minutes Kendal made a double substitution and it was one of them who set-up Kendal’s equaliser five minutes later.

Brandon Croskell-Robinson got to the by line and squared the ball for Nathan Hankinson, a first half substitute, to hammer home from a few yards.

Two minutes later the visitors were down to nine men when Luke Gibson was sin-binned.

In a frantic finish Kendal went close but Charnock held firm as Winder shot over and Jakovlevs held a header from Croskell-Robinson.

Gibson had come back on for the last two minutes of stoppage time.
