James Hooper, who joined Workington Reds on the eve of the season, is moving on.
The 25-year-old former Carlisle United team-mate of Danny Grainger is linking-up with rival NPL West club Runcorn Linnets.
Reds received seven days notice of approach from the Linnets and after talking to the manager Hooper decided to accept their offer.
The Linnets played at Borough Park last week and won 2-1 in an FA Trophy tie.
Grainger said: “After having a good conversation with Hoops his work and the travel commitments have become too much for him.
“He has had an offer closer to home which suits him at this moment in time and everyone at the club would like to thank him for all his efforts and we wish him all the best.”
Hooper only made a couple of starts for Reds but he did grab two goals for the club.
Coming on as a substitute at Prescot he scored a late equaliser and starting at wing-back in a 3-5-2 formation in the FA Cup tie at West Allotment scored one in the 7-0 win.
After starting with Rochdale as a youth team player, Manchester-based Hooper had a brief spell with Carlisle in 2017 and since then has played for a number of non-League clubs including Radcliffe Borough, Altrincham, Witton and Atherton Collieries.
Hooper was the only member of the Reds squad who wasn’t at Bootle on Saturday.
Unused second goalkeeper Danny Eccles and the injured trio of Ben Hughes, Greg McCarragher and Bobby Carroll were all there along with the 16 on duty.
Reds have a break until Saturday when they entertain Skelmersdale in the League game postponed last Tuesday.
