A sixth member of Whitehaven’s 2022 Championship squad is leaving the LEL Arena.
Liam Cooper has had two spells with Haven but with new work commitments affecting training routines his departure has been confirmed by the club.
Cooper has made 63 appearances in the chocolate, blue and gold after initially joining the club on loan from St Helens in 2018 and in his two spells with the club he has scored 10 tries having re-joined the club for the start of the 2021 season.
Interim CEO Ashley Kilpatrick said: “I had a good conversation with him on Friday afternoon and I totally understand his decision.
“He’s got a new job and with the hours he will be working it won’t give him enough time to get up for training.
“Liam’s been here for two full season now as well as his loan spell he had in 2018 and has been brilliant for us. He’s gutted he has to leave as he holds the club very close to his heart but has to think of life after rugby with his work.
“We wish him all the best in his future with rugby and work.”
Cooper is the sixth player who will be leaving Whitehaven as the club has to start a re-building job. He follows Ryan King, Nikau Williams, Will Evans, Geronimo Doyle and Tom Wilkinson out of the door.
