Workington Reds Ladies introduced another new signing in Sunday’s 2-1 home League win over Haslingden.
Talented striker Kacey Rodgers is the seventh signing from the Cumberland County Under-16s Women’s League in the last six months and the fourth from Cockermouth Junior Football Club.
Her talent further demonstrates the excellent work that is being carried out locally by the clubs catering for girls’ football.
After a pleasing debut Reds Ladies manager Paul Mackenzie said: “Kacey is an out and out striker looking to pounce on any opportunity to get a shot away.
“She also has an impressive speed and aggression in possession and comes out of the League Cup-winning Cockermouth side as last season’s top goal scorer.”
She meets up again with team manager Mackenzie and coach Colin Teasdale, both of whom coached Kacey at Cockermouth although their roles were reversed at the time.
Teasdale said: “Its great to see Kacey join the squad and the other youngsters that have joined up with us over the last six months.
“They have all made an impressive start to their careers with us and give a great indication of the direction that the players, coaches and manager are heading in”.
Kacey said: “I was in the stands last week watching the game and soaking up the atmosphere and I just knew that I had to be part of it.
“There’s loads of good things going on at the minute both behind the scenes and on the field and there is a real positivity about the team.
“Last week-end I was sitting watching in the stands and this week-end I was on the subs bench and managed to play for the last 30 minutes of the game.”
Mackenzie commented “We have been looking to bring Kacey in for a while now, but she was undecided if she wanted to continue to play football or have a spell off after a busy year focussing on her exams and then facing the challenges of life after leaving school.
“As a club we were respectful that the decision had to be hers to make and we are delighted that she has chosen to continue with football and commit her services to the club.
“Kacey came on at the week-end and had an impressive debut for the club and has fitted in with her team-mates from the off.”
