On a wet night, with just a small crowd last night’s HTA meeting at Dearham was one for the diehards.
Yet that didn’t prevent the hounds providing plenty of excitement in the three trails with some exciting finishes.
In the seniors 14 went to the slip and it was Graham Reed’s Biff who came with the lead and maintained his advantage through the last three fields to beat Stuart Jeynes’ Forlorn Spring.
Two challengers for the senior title Miterdale Duchess and Hunter’s Flame could only manage third and fifth, split by Cracking Last One Two.
There was a good field of 15 pups and when they came into sight champion-elect Huntsman’s Rebel had the lead over Silver Streak. But Huntsman’s Rebel made a mistake at the last fence and that allowed Silver Streak to push on and win.
Huntsman’s Rebel finished second and another of the fancied runners Foxparke Beep Beep was third.
There were only six runners for the final trail of open restricted hounds and there was a real battle to the line, a tough and go finish but it was Black Edition who just got up to beat Meadow Maggie and Shackalackaboomboom.
The next meeting is at Fellside on Thursday with the opening senior trail at 4-30pm followed by pups and open restricted.
