Woodside Guest House, Keswick

A Lake District guest house is entering a new era after its owners decided to sell up and retire to Greece.

Woodside Guest House in Keswick has been run by Jennifer and Nikos Karampatis since 2015 but after seven years, they put it on the market for offers in the region of £675,000 with agent Colliers.

Built in 1895 for one of the spinster sisters of the Bobbin Mill, it has five bedrooms, private gardens and two-bedroom owners’ accommodation.

The guest house has been bought by Hannah Richardson and Bart-Jan Bekker, known as BJ, who both have a background working for charities.

They have moved from Berkhamsted in Hertfordshire to Keswick and begin this new life chapter in the hospitality trade and plan to reopen the doors immediately.

Hannah said: “We have been looking forward to moving to Keswick to start our new venture at Woodside. The wonderful property has everything that we were hoping for and buying it has fulfilled a dream of ours! We are excited to take over the successful business built up by Jennifer and Nikos and to welcome their regulars and many new guests.”

Haydn Spedding, consultant in the hotel agency team at Colliers, added: “Woodside Guest House is without a doubt one of the nicest guest houses of its size that we have had the pleasure to market in Keswick for a while. I am really looking forward to seeing how the business develops in the hands of new owners Hannah and Bart-Jan and wish them all the best for their future.

“Keswick particularly is an area of high demand for buyers, and we are seeking similar properties to bring to the market.”
