There were pleasant, sunny conditions for the HTA meeting back at Dearham – and 54 hounds contested the four trails.
Fifteen of them contested the opening senior trail, including the new table leader Jenny’s Quest but not her main rival Duchess Ava.
But in the end Jenny’s Quest was just out of the tickets and there was a surprise when Alan Blacklock’s Babycham led in the joint favourite Winterfell with Barncroft Spirit in third.
A good field of pups lined up with last Tuesday’s course winner Silver Streak and table leader Huntsman’s Rebel both at evens in the betting ring.
Silver Streak had followed up by winning at Seaton on Thursday and just as then she showed in front with Geoff Higgins’ Lucky Lottie.
Again it was a similar story as Silver Streak dug that little deeper and had a few yards in hand at the line.
Alan Blacklock’s Busy Again, sent off at 7/2 came through for third and it was ahead of Huntsman’s Rebel.
The smallest field of nine runners contested the open maidens and it was Carol and Stanley Jackson’s Clementine who showed in front, maintaining a narrow lead over Babyliss to the line.
The 2/1 favourite Shackalackaboomboom was back in fifth place.
The biggest field was for the open restricted to close the meeting and 24 were slipped with quite a few fancied.
Forlorn Spring and Silver Dancer were sent off joint favourites at 6/4 with last week’s winner Denton Shamrock a 5/2 chance.
However, at the business end there was another surprise winner with Overwater Louie staying on well to beat Silver Dancer.
They are back at Dearham on Wednesday with an earlier slipping time of 3-34 for the seniors, followed by pups and open restricted.
