Cleator Moor Celtic and Carlisle United will bid to reach the last 16 of the County Cup.

They had to go to extra time last year to settle a quarter final tie which was also played at Inglenorth Park before United got through.

Tonight’s clash is the first round stage and Celtic manager Brian Dawson has a few injury concerns after Saturday’s 3-2 Cup loss at Bacup Borough.

Skipper Kieran Maguire suffered a hamstring injury while Darren Little rolled his ankle and are doubtful but Connor Hammill, a former Carlisle youth team player who had to retire after half an hour feeling unwell, is likely to be able to play.

United relied on their youth side in the competition last season, going out in the semi-final to the eventual winners Carlisle City but will include some seniors tonight.

Stockport loanee Ben Barclay is fit after an injury lay-off and in need of game time so he is likely to start while manager Paul Simpson is probably going to give youth team manager Paul Birch others from the first team squad who also need minutes.

Goalkeeper Michael Kelly, Taylor Charters and Jack Ellis are said to be under consideration for a start.

The first round has almost been completed with just Cockermouth v Aspatria to fit in on Saturday after tonight’s tie.

Holders Carlisle City got through last week with a big 13-1 home win over Braithwaite while Windscale were awarded their tie when Eden United pulled out.

Whitehaven, who play their football in the West Lancashire League, won 4-1 at Wetheriggs Utd and the other scores were: Gosforth 3, Whitehaven Miners 1; Eden Thistle 1, Wigton Harriers 3; Kirkoswald 5, Alston Moor 0; Maryport Athletic 2, Silloth 0; Penrith Royal 1, Unisun Athletic 6,

Six teams had first round byes: Bransty Rangers, Greystoke, Keswick, Langwathby Utd, Penrith and Workington.
