A South Cumbrian road is set to close overnight for up to three weeks to protect people from potential rock falls.
From Monday, the B5282 at Storth, near Arnside, will be closed to all traffic so contractors can work on the slope above.
The work, in the area of Friar Cote and Rock Cottage, will see the road closed from 6.30pm to 5am Mondays to Fridays.
During the work, vegetation will be removed, loose material will be descaled, and some large blocks will be removed from the rock slopes.
The highway will be closed to all traffic, including cyclists, pedestrians, and equestrians, during this time due to the machinery required and lack of highway width for a safe working area.
A Cumbria County Council spokesman said: “We recognise these restrictions will cause some local disruption, but these important works are necessary to ensure the safety of local residents and all road users. Access for emergency vehicles will be permitted through the closure points during the works.
Cllr Keith Little, Cumbria County Council cabinet member for highways and transport, added: “We apologise in advance for the disruption this road closure will have; however, these works are necessary to fully determine the condition of the rock slope and start works to protect the public from potential rock falls at this location.
“Our priority is public safety, and I am pleased that we are making these improvements and I would like to thank the residents and businesses for their support.”
