Barrow ended their five match losing run with a 2-0 win over Carlisle in the Papa John’s Trophy.
The Bluebirds had lost their previous Trophy tie and four League Two games and manager Pete Wild was relieved to have ended the losing sequence.
The game had been held up for 17 minutes very early in proceedings when a firework was thrown on the field from behind the goals.
When they resumed United lost Saturday’s two goal man Jack Stretton to an injury and he was replaced by Ryan Edmondson.
The first big save of the game came from Michael Kelly after a deflected effort from Jordan Stevens fell nicely for David Mayo and the Irishman made a timely stop with his legs.
Corey Whelan was closest for Carlisle when his effort was cleared off the line as United finished ther half on top, forcing a series of fruitless corners.
The crowd of 2,281 (171 from Carlisle) saw the home side force the pace at the start of the second-half, forcing a series of corners while Josh Kay rattled the bar with a strong shot.
It was no real surprise when Barrow went ahead on 69 minutes when Kay finished off with a fine effort after cutting in following a strong run from deep.
They clinched the game on 81 minutes when Sam Foley headed home the second after George Ray had headed Kay’s corner back across goal.
