Hound virtually over the line as senior champion in Hound Trail Association

Denise Bland with Huntsman’s Rebel winner of the Open Pups at Buttermere Show.

Jenny’s Quest is virtually over the line as senior champion in the HTA.

She won the trail at Buttermere Show on Sunday to move on to 14 for the season and that’s four clear of Duchess Ava and five in front of Winterfell.

With just four meetings left and Duchess Ava struggling for form it should be just a formality for the Patterdale bitch to claim the crown in a week’s time.

At the half-way points Jenny’s Quest and Jenny’s Oracle showed the way but Winterfell was quite a bit behind and clearly had got wrong somewhere along the trail.
He had made up a considerable amount of ground to eventually finish fourth but could get nowhere near the champion-elect.

Consolation for the Yorkshire trainers – the Bell family – might be that two wins could land the runners-up spot.

The senior maiden trail was won by Green Flyer, now being trained by Zack and Jake Green who are both new to trailing.

They were clearly delighted with the win, as were many of the spectators, and is a just reward for all their hard work in training the hound.

In the pups champion Huntsman’s Rebel and Huntsman’s Rally repeated their one-two from the Friday meeting at Buttermere.

This took her to 33 wins for the season and she was flying yesterday, looking very impressive.

The puppy maiden race was won by Stephen Riley’s Huntsman’s Ruby but only after the judge had consulted the camera as it was a very tight finish with Foxparke Whoosh.

This win took Huntsman’s Ruby to the top of the grade points table but there are still four races left so things could change.

The last race for open restricted was even closer and this time after studying the photo finish the judge gave a dead heat between Stuart Jeynes’ Forlorn Spring and Julie Birkenshaw and Brian Graham’s Bretton.

Both Forlorn Spring and Oakbank Izzy, who was fourth, and are tied on 75 points for the open restricted championship.

There are two races left but Forlorn Spring won’t be competing as it has won the required quota and Oakbank Izzy just has to pick up points to take the title.
